Local Area & Attractions

Ivy House is situated in the middle of Cornwall, making it the perfect location to explore the county. It is possible to visit all parts of Cornwall on a day trip while you’re based here. For ideas and inspiration the Visit Cornwall website is a good place to start. We can also offer advice and information about various sites and attractions during your stay. There is so much to see and do, it’s impossible to list everything! However, here’s our Top 5 of local attractions – all a short journey from Ivy House:

The Eden Project – the world-famous attraction has to be seen to be believed, with its huge space-like biomes and plants from across the World. Just a few miles from Ivy House, you can also get a bus there from the bus station at the end of the drive. For more information and to buy tickets online, see here.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan – while Cornwall is famous for its huge range of gardens, this is certainly one of our favourites! The beautifully restored site has so much to see and explore. Details here.

Charlestown – the historic port of St Austell is now a UNESCO world heritage site. It’s also a famous filming site and frequently featured in the BBC drama Poldark. It’s free to walk around the 18th century harbour and enjoy the views. The Shipwreck & Heritage Centre is recommended. More details here.

Mevagissey & Fowey – visit one or both of these beautiful fishing harbours during your stay. Both feature picture-postcard views and have plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops. You can combine the visit by using the ferry that connects the two harbours.

St Austell Brewery – a short walk from Ivy House, this famous brewery makes beers including Tribute, Proper Job and Korev. It’s one of St Austell’s oldest businesses and, when the wind is blowing the right direction, you can smell the beer being brewed at Ivy House! You can visit the shop, bar and visitor centre – details here.
